Are there any safe places anymore? In her short devotional, author and mentor, Dana Grubb, explores our options in a world filled with chaos.
Do you sometimes wonder if there are any safe places anymore? I live in San Antonio Texas and recently we had a shooting at an area mall. In the middle of a robbery of a jewelry store a man attempted to stop the robbers because of the danger they posed to others. There were multiple gun shots and the man who sought to protect his wife and others was killed. I go to church with a couple of people who were in the mall at the time of the shooting. One of those people was there with her kids. They were in the food court when they heard the shots and they dove under a table in the food court. In the middle of danger, she sought a safe place for her and her kids.
Some of the places we once thought were safe have been violated by people who seek to harm others. In our country there have been shootings in schools, malls, workplaces, airports and even churches. When things like this happen we may wonder if there are any safe places.
Thankfully, God promises us that He will be our safe place in our unsafe world. God calls us to come to Him to find a safe place. Psalm 91:4 says, “He will cover you with his feathers and under his wings you will find refuge.”
Divorce, cancer, illness, death, grief, addiction, they can all lead us to seek out a safe place. When we struggle with loneliness or guilt, we need a refuge. When fear, anxiety and worry seek to overtake us, God invites us to a safe place. When your child walks away from God, He calls us to find comfort in Him. When the disappointments and hurts in life overwhelm us we need a safe place. God, through His love, compassion, mercy and peace, gives us a place of refuge that we cannot find in this world.
I look forward to our time together in April where we will look at two women who found refuge in God. We will meet a woman who found refuge in Jesus’ mercy. We will also meet a woman who found refuge in God’s love and care for her.
I encourage you to be in prayer for the women God will bring to the Women Walking with God conference. Please pray that we will all grow closer to him as we find our refuge in God.
